The City of Perry council on Oct. 28 approved a resolution declaring a 2019 Ford Explorer surplus and authorizing its donation to the Chattahoochee Police Department.
Staff said the vehicle was identified during the departmentfleet inventory as a vehicle that was uneconomical to continue operating for Perry's needs. Staff reported that Chattahoochee does not have a comparable vehicle and that the department previously assisted Perry during a hurricane response; staff recommended returning the favor by donating the vehicle.
The donation resolution specifies the vehicle would be transferred "as is" with no warranty and that the recipient would execute a hold-harmless agreement. The council moved and the roll call recorded affirmative votes by multiple councilmembers, after which staff confirmed they would prepare the necessary release and hold-harmless documents prior to transfer.
Why it matters: The transfer is an interlocal assistance action; selling the vehicle at auction was considered but staff recommended the donation because it would provide equipment to a neighboring department with limited resources. The resolution does not require city funds to complete the transfer.
