Upson County awards Poe Diddy Road bridge repair contract using state LMIG funds

The Upson County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 28 approved a contract to repair the Poe Diddy Road bridge using 2025 Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) funds.
County staff said two bids were received: a high bid near $924,000 and a low, responsive bid of about $423,075 (transcript numbers approximate). Staff recommended the low, responsive bidder based on price and references and urged the board to let the project as soon as possible to prevent a more serious failure. The project will be funded with LMIG funds the county received from the Georgia Department of Transportation; the county has roughly $550,000 available in that grant allocation for 2025, staff said.
Commissioners voted to approve awarding the contract to the recommended low bidder. Board members said it was better to address the bridge-safety issues now rather than wait until the structure required more costly emergency repairs. The county will proceed with contracting and scheduling the repairs under LMIG funding.
