Board members nominated and seconded Erica for chair; the board voted in favor and she accepted, thanking members and asking for patience during a learning curve. "This is very humbling," Erica said after the vote and asked colleagues to be patient with her as she learns the role.
On routine business, the board reviewed meeting dates, committee assignments and an MOE (memorandum/accounting item) with a firm deadline of Oct. 31. Finance staff raised concerns that some grant numbers and totals in the draft may not match county finance records and suggested approval be contingent on budget review and corrections. The board voted to approve the MOE "subject to corrections that become necessary."
The chair asked board members to email their top two committee preferences so the chair could form committees and present them at the next meeting. Several administrative agenda items — including standing meeting dates for 2025–2026 and committee assignments — were tabled for future discussion.
Directors gave brief operational reports (attendance statistics, new programs such as "savvy seniors" and preparation for summer reading) before the board recessed to an executive session.
