Berkeley County adopts proclamations recognizing National American Indian Heritage Month and Veterans Day

Commissioners adopted two proclamations presented by the William Henshall chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
Pam Brush, vice regent of the chapter, read a proclamation asking the county to designate November as National American Indian Heritage Month and urged citizens to observe the month with appropriate ceremonies and activities. The commission moved, seconded and adopted the proclamation without recorded opposition.
A second proclamation recognizing Veterans Day 2025 (observed on Tuesday, Nov. 11) was read and adopted. The proclamation recounted the historical origins of the holiday, noted related observances and encouraged citizens to recognize veterans' sacrifices. The county invited the public to the annual observance at War Memorial Park and a wreath-laying ceremony on Veterans Day.
Both proclamations were moved and seconded and approved on the commission floor. Commissioners spoke in support of honoring veterans and continuing community commemorative events; one commissioner noted the Veterans Day parade scheduled for Nov. 8 in Martinsburg.
