The board approved two compensation items aimed at acknowledging additional district responsibilities and staffing shortages.
Trustees authorized stipends for campus Chromebook managers because many librarians and other staff have taken on device-management duties since the district moved to 1-to-1 devices. Stipends will be $1,000 for campuses with fewer than 500 students and $1,500 for campuses with more than 500; payments will be divided into two installments (end of fall and end of spring) to allow for midyear staffing changes.
Separately, trustees approved critical-need stipends for diagnosticians and occupational therapists. Staff described vacancies and lack of applicants for these certified positions, leading to existing staff carrying larger-than-recommended caseloads (staff noted some caseloads are roughly double typical levels). The board approved repurposing existing vacant-salary funds to increase compensation for current staff working above capacity; trustees described the change as budget-neutral for the current year and a temporary mitigation while the district seeks long-term certification and hiring solutions.
Both items passed by voice vote with no recorded opposing votes (motions carried 5-0).
