The middle school building committee reported Oct. 28 that it has voted to extend the contract of Colliers (owner's project manager) and JWA (design firm) and expects to complete a final review and extension of Fontaine Brothers' contract soon.
Committee members said the project team will meet every two weeks with owner, architect and contractor to monitor deliverables and schedules as the design development phase continues. Staff emphasized the importance of managing scope creep and aligning design changes with the district's goals to limit unnecessary change orders.
The committee described multiple working groups beginning to form to address design details and noted regular reporting requirements to the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) as the project advances.
No new votes on design contracts were taken at the meeting beyond the reported extensions; staff said additional contract approvals and design deliverables will be brought forward as needed.
