Staff reported a $4,500 estimate for a city display and said the Chamber of Commerce has been approached about taking the fireworks back as a fundraiser, possibly moving the event from July 4 to Old-Fashioned Weekend to increase attendance and donor support. The council discussed seeding the chamber with $3,000 as start-up money if the chamber agrees to manage the event and pursue fundraising; members also suggested moving the fireworks to a larger ballfield site to improve logistics and gate/donation opportunities.
After extended discussion, members agreed to a set of provisional adjustments to several subsidy line items (including reducing some smaller requests) to arrive at a working total near $75,000 and directed staff to pursue follow-up conversations with subsidy applicants and the Chamber. Council asked staff to return with refined numbers and confirmation from the school district about any matching contributions to childcare programs.
