Camarillo cites industrial and retail growth, new hotels and a Costco site under construction

Mayor Kevin Kildee said Camarillo is strengthening its economic base, pointing to industrial expansions and new retail and hospitality projects.
He noted HRL Laboratories has expanded in Camarillo with a new facility in the city’s technology corridor that supports government and space applications. Sandvik’s battery research and manufacturing presence in Camarillo also continues to grow, and another manufacturer has opened a facility that Mayor Kildee said will increase production capacity by about 300% for aerospace and defense customers.
On retail and hospitality, the mayor said site work has started for a 160,000‑square‑foot Costco and gas station near Springville Drive; a new Central Plaza tenant is a bond supermarket and gas station; a 1,000‑capacity conference center is under construction in Meehan Plaza with two hotels planned; and a range of restaurants either opened or are coming to the area. Kildee said the city has nearly 4,400 businesses and that the industrial vacancy rate in Camarillo declined to 2.9% while the city’s office vacancy rate was about 11.7%.
The mayor said the city will refresh its economic development strategic plan in 2026 to focus on growing and diversifying the local base and targeting sectors such as advanced manufacturing and life sciences.
