Camarillo mayor praises emergency response to Nov. 6 fire, urges continued resilience planning

Mayor Kevin Kildee thanked regional emergency partners and city staff for their role in responding to the Nov. 6, 2024 mountain fire and outlined steps the city took to support affected residents and businesses.

"We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the Ventura County Aviation Unit and the Camarillo Airport for serving as a critical, critical staging area to fight that fire," Kildee said, praising rapid activation of emergency operations and regional collaboration.

In the immediate aftermath, the city activated a special hotline, launched a recovery website with updates and resources for impacted property owners, and organized community meetings with CAL FIRE and Ventura County to keep residents informed. The Camarillo Public Library provided Wi‑Fi and a safe space for residents to reconnect with services during recovery; library staff also created a public gratitude display of cards for responding agencies.

Kildee said the city is applying lessons from the fire to longer‑term resilience planning. He noted the Sustainability Master Plan and Climate Action Plan work as part of efforts to embed resilience into city operations and emergency response.

The mayor’s remarks highlighted community coordination and thanked both local staff and regional partners involved in firefighting and recovery work. No new formal actions or votes were announced during the address.
