Staff said many fees were benchmarked against nearby cities (Social Circle, Winder) and against county practices; staff noted differences in staffing costs for cities that employ in‑house planners versus cities that contract services. Council asked staff to provide line‑by‑line comparisons to current fees and to the county and to bring specific building‑permit proposals to a future work session for further review.
Staff also said it will post the full fee schedule on the city website and that the proposed schedule would take effect after formal approval at a future council meeting. Council did not adopt fee changes at Thursday’s meeting; staff will return with more detailed comparisons and the final text for council consideration.
