Summary
County Mayor Ken Myers praised emergency responders for their response to the AES incident and warned the federal government shutdown is delaying USDA services and federally funded grant decisions affecting county programs.
County Mayor Ken Myers told the Hickman County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 27 that emergency management and local responder agencies performed strongly during the recent AES incident and asked commissioners to keep affected families in their prayers.
"I wanna personally and publicly thank Director Pete Tibbs and his entire emergency management team," Myers said, and he also thanked fire departments, the sheriff's office and county crews for their response. He said county staff have been coordinating with state and regional partners to support long‑term recovery and that a local GoFundMe created for AES recovery had raised more than $46,000 toward a $50,000 goal.
Myers also reported federal impacts tied to a federal government shutdown: USDA offices have been closed since Oct. 1, and some federally funded programs — including a CDBG application intended to buy cardiac monitors for EMS and routine services tied to the county's ROTC program — are being delayed. He said the county is pursuing available grant opportunities, including a $50,000 strategic grant acceptance for the land use plan and a $100,000 broadband‑ready communities grant that will be refined as funding availability changes.
The mayor invited commissioners to ask questions; no formal action on the mayor's items was taken at the meeting.
