Commission renames Accident Review Board to Risk Committee, expands advisory role
Summary
The commission approved reorganizing the Accident Review Board into a Risk Committee to broaden review responsibilities to insurance and strategic risk and to allow departmental safety committees; the committee will serve in an advisory capacity.
County staff presented a draft establishing a Risk Committee to replace the Accident Review Board. The proposed change expands the body’s advisory remit to include incident review, insurance matters and broader strategic risk topics, and grants authority to create departmental safety committees in an advisory capacity.
A county staff member described the difference from the prior board: "The risk committee expands that and gives us the ability to look at insurance, any kind of more strategic risk kind of issues…with also the authority to create safety committees within the departments," staff said. Commissioners asked for a redline version of the ordinance in future drafts because this draft struck much of the prior language and replaced it.
A motion to approve the charter revision passed by voice vote. The committee will operate in an advisory role; no budget changes were proposed at the meeting.
