The properties committee voted (by consensus) to form a working group to review facilities policies FAO 1 through FAO 10 and produce redlined drafts by Dec. 31. Director Chatton asked for volunteers and said the working group would be limited in size; Holly and Suzanne volunteered and the chair included himself, forming a three-person group that will schedule an initial meeting and report back at the Dec. 4 committee meeting.
Committee members raised a series of operational and policy gaps during the FAO review. On FAO 5 (smoke-free and odor-free environment), Suzanne said strong restroom fragrance dispensers contributed to an asthma attack she experienced during the facilities tour and asked staff to look at alternatives. Facilities operations manager Sabrina Hellevato said vendors place automatic fragrance dispensers in restrooms and that some cleaning chemicals have scents; she agreed to research other options.
On firearms postings, Jolene asked whether a posting is required; staff said they would research applicable Arizona Revised Statutes/Maricopa County code and provide an answer at the next meeting. For FAO 9 (alcohol restrictions), Suzanne noted that the sample notice posted in facilities does not match the policy language and lacks language about penalties; the committee asked staff to reconcile posted notices with policy verbiage and consider adding explicit consequences where appropriate.
Governing Board President Christine Novella (participating ex officio) said the governing-board policies "are designed to help guide the operations of our... Sun City West" and provide oversight and transparency for residents. The committee identified FAO2, FAO7 and FAO10 as in-scope for the working group's review and asked staff to prepare linkages between policies and any longer guideline documents.
No formal board-level policy changes were adopted at the meeting; the working group will draft redlines and staff will return with statutory research and operational recommendations for restroom fragrance, firearms postings and posted alcohol notices.
