The board received a presentation from R&R Insurance about services the agency will provide for the district's self-funded health plan and employee benefit program.
Michelle, representing R&R Insurance, described the company as a large, family-owned Wisconsin agency with benefits, analytics, well-being and Medicare resources. She said the agency will evaluate the district's current plan design and pharmacy formulary, educate employees about the district's Nexus network and other in-network options, and implement communications, wallet cards and mobile resources to increase appropriate use of low-cost care.
Why it matters: Staff said the district's move to a self-funded model gives local decision-makers flexibility to manage plan levers. R&R told trustees it will recommend network and pharmacy strategies, support vitality and well-being initiatives already in place, and work to reduce avoidable cost growth while preserving benefit quality. R&R representatives said they will provide ongoing analytics and multi-year planning aimed at keeping benefits fiscally sustainable.
Board members praised the comprehensive approach and emphasized the need for clear employee education about new resources and plan navigation. R&R noted steps already underway to align communications for open enrollment and year-round support for employees approaching retirement or Medicare eligibility.
Speakers for this item included Michelle (R&R Insurance) and Mel (district business staff). Trustees asked for and received commitments to follow up with plan documents, proposed communications and cost- containment recommendations for the board to review.
