Streator council approves three $15,000 façade grants, accepts FEMA fire grant and awards $75,000 construction contract

At its Oct. 14 meeting the Streator City Council approved three façade‑grant awards of $15,000 each for 620 East Main Street, 102–110 North Everett Street, and 820 North Shadrock/Austin Street. The planning commission recommended all three awards; council members noted that awarding all three will exhaust the current fiscal year façade program funds.
Council also voted to accept an Assistance to Firefighters grant from FEMA totaling just over $112,000 to purchase new air‑monitoring equipment and a handheld chemical identifier. The grant requires approximately a 5% city match (about $5,600). Staff told council the match is budgeted and will be presented in an upcoming budget report.
Separately, council awarded a construction contract for the 2025 fire station entrance project to Advance Asphalt Company of Princeton, Ill., for $75,000. Staff said the city solicited six bids; the selected bid was the lowest and the project is under the originally estimated budget.
Clerk roll calls showed unanimous affirmative votes for the façade grant resolutions, the grant acceptance and the contract award.
