The Streator City Council voted unanimously on Oct. 14 to deny a proposed amendment to the city zoning map that would have rezoned 1115 East Wilson Street from single‑family to allow a duplex. The council adopted Resolution 2025‑38, following a planning commission recommendation to deny the request.
The planning commission held a public hearing that was noticed properly and received one neighbor comment opposing the rezoning, according to council remarks. Council members said the commission’s key concern was creating a “spot zone” that could enable uses by future owners the city could not predict.
“When you do the change in the zoning, that change stays even after he sells it. You don't know who is gonna end up owning it in the future and what their plans would be,” a council member summarized during the discussion.
Clerk roll call recorded Councilman Danko, Councilman Geary, Mayor Reid, Councilman Shire and Mayor Beda voting “aye.” Under the motion as read, an affirmative (yes) vote carried the denial.
Because the action was a denial, no changes to the zoning map will be recorded for the property. The planning commission packet and hearing materials were referenced by council during the motion.
