The Ithaca Common Council unanimously approved a resolution and a local law confirming the 2026 Sidewalk Improvement District assessments, budget and schedule of work during its Oct. 15 special meeting.
The council opened and closed a public hearing on the program without public speakers before taking the motions. Alderperson Letterman moved the resolution and the local law confirming the assessment schedule; Alderperson Saint Perez seconded the resolution and Alderperson Kumar seconded the local law. Alderperson Fabrizio thanked the Department of Public Works and staff for steps to make the outreach process more inclusive this year and urged continued community engagement when the program returns in 2027.
Clerk roll call recorded affirmative votes from the alderpersons present; the mayor announced the motions carried unanimously. The actions adopted approve the district assessments, provide a budget and set the schedule of work for the 2026 sidewalk program.
The program finances repairs and replacements for priority sidewalks in the district through assessment schedules and a stated work plan. Council members said they want to broaden community identification of priority segments in the next year; staff earlier described public outreach used to identify this year’s priorities.
The council adjourned the special meeting after the votes.
