Lewis County adopts 35 mph limit on Azloon Road after staff study

Anderson said the report recommended the 35 mph limit because of the skewed angle at the Azloon–Swafford intersection, higher seasonal recreational traffic, corridor continuity with adjacent roads posted at 35 mph, and to give drivers more distance to reduce speed before entering Mossy Rock Park, which is posted at 15 mph. He said, "Local authorities are authorized to determine the maximum speed limits permitted on roadways based on an engineering and traffic investigation."
The hearing process included a staff question-and-answer period and an opportunity for public testimony; no members of the public signed up to speak. A motion to adopt the ordinance was moved, seconded and passed with both commissioners voting "Aye." The ordinance applies to County Road 62161 for the described segment; the meeting record does not specify an implementation date for new signage or the schedule for changes to posted limits.
The board opened and closed the formal hearing sequence as required by statute and local rule before taking the vote.
