Director Kelly said written testimony and AD testimony submitted to the OSAA appeared to improve the district’s standing in recent drafts. "Either way, my understanding, obviously, we would prefer to stay in the Tri Valley, but being in the Inter Mountain would not be awful," Dr. Bernal said. Board members agreed that a unified, consistent message would be helpful and discussed sending a joint letter of support.
The board asked district athletic staff (AD JT Taylor was referenced) to provide transportation cost estimates to support testimony. Chair Higbee offered to draft talking points or a draft letter the board could sign via DocuSign; board members indicated they would also send brief individual emails to the named OSAA contact urging “Tri Valley” in big, clear language.
No formal vote was taken on a resolution, but the board voted later to have members endorse specific OSBA and legislative candidates related to regional representation. Board members asked the athletic director to continue attending classification meetings and to be consistent in advocating for the district’s preferred placement.
