Council approved a supplemental appropriation of $200,000 to remove or repair structures associated with the former Splash Marine facility in Wax Park and to prepare the site for future park uses described in the Parks and Recreation Community Vision Plan.
The presenter told the committee they obtained three quotes for the demolition and site-preparation work and that a range of roughly $100,000 to $250,000 appeared in the materials; the presenter recommended $200,000 to provide an adequate budgetary allowance for unknowns such as conditions in the pump house or subsurface features.
The presenter also said the concession building had been repaired by insurance following an April flood and that Pirate Packs currently uses the concession space; staff said organizers had been offered alternate space in coordination with the school district. A motion was made to have legislation drawn up to appropriate $200,000 for demolition and site work; the roll-call vote recorded affirmative votes from Mister Patel; Missus Webb; Missus Allen; Mayor Murphy; Mister Miller; Mister Doherty; and Miss Marcus.
Staff said contractors would be selected through the normal bidding process and the contract would return to council for approval.
