Council votes not to advance rezoning request for 3305 Main Street from R‑2 to B‑2

The Moraine City Council Committee of the Whole voted to not move forward with a proposed rezoning of 3305 Main Street from R‑2 (residential) to B‑2 (business). Council members cited the city's comprehensive plan and concerns about neighborhood impacts as reasons for opposing the rezoning.

A councilmember noted that the comprehensive-plan designation for the area is residential and said, "we made that whole section residential, and I can't see taking 1 little piece right. Making it business, and everything on either side is residential." Another councilmember cited past problems at the site when a smoke shop operated there and said rezoning could open the property to towing, auto repair or similar uses. The council member also said county property records showed the parcel was sold in June to Centerville Towing and that the applicant's email address referenced Centerville Towing.

The matter had been recommended for rezoning by the Planning Commission and a public hearing was held earlier in the evening; however, during the Committee of the Whole a motion was made "that we do not move that forward." The committee then conducted a roll-call vote. The record shows the following "yes" votes on the motion to not advance the rezoning: Mister Miller; Mister Doherty; Mister Brachette/Bridgette; Missus Witt; Missus Allen; Mayor Murphy; Miss Marcus. The motion carried and the matter will not be forwarded for legislation at this time.

No legislation to effect a zoning change for 3305 Main Street will be prepared following this vote, per the committee's action.
