Connelly said the district will observe Unity Day on Oct. 22 and encouraged families to wear orange that day as a sign of solidarity. He said the district will share resources, reminders and stories across its social media channels throughout the month to support prevention work.
Connelly emphasized that not all childhood misbehavior is bullying and said distinguishing mean or rude behavior from bullying is important for appropriate responses. He identified common hot spots for bullying as playgrounds, hallways and cafeterias, where supervision may be limited, and asked families and staff to pay attention to those areas to better protect students.
The district plans to use online channels to highlight steps it is taking to prevent bullying and to encourage positive connections among students. No new disciplinary policy changes were announced in the message.
