The Board of Public Works and Safety took a series of routine administrative actions by voice vote during its Oct. 29 meeting.
The board approved the Oct. 15 meeting minutes. It granted staff permission to enter six properties to remove abated items that remain in violation (1009 West Taylor Street; 1140 South Armstrong Street; 1223 South Ohio; 1230 South Delphus Street; 2608 Elva Drive; and 721 South Apperson Way). The board took multiple 2026 materials bids under advisement after staff read a list of bidders and items, and it accepted an invoice from Veritas Group Inc., invoice No. 204752, for $8,894.60 related to the conference center.
The board approved requested transfers in the wastewater treatment plant budget, including $14,400 for sewer repairs; $21,000 for pretreatment installation inspections; $3,000 and $2,500 for employee work shoes, hats and welding helmets; and $1,500 to pay outstanding furniture invoices. Parks Superintendent Tory (Troy) Rowe won approval for a consultant agreement with Kyle Gibson for the 2026 summer concert series. Jensen Pickett, director of central equipment, presented quotes to replace the roof at the central garage; the board approved the $89,668 quote from Complete Commercial Roofing of Kokomo. The board also approved a one-year extension with Ice Rinks to Go for the Frozen Sandlot ice rink in the amount of $120,833.33.
Finally, because the board had not met the prior week, it approved two claims packets: $1,562,010.89 and $1,669,884.37. All motions were approved by voice vote; the transcript records verbal "Aye" responses and the chair's statement that the motions carried.
