Residents urge council not to site a fire station at Mission Park, cite traffic, noise and flooding

Several residents used the Citizens’ Comments period on Oct. 28 to urge the council to reconsider locating a fire station at Mission Park.
A resident identified as Tony said he has lived across from Mission Park for 47 years and described the area as congested, with limited parking and constrained east–west movement. He said school buses stop six times a day and that children walk to nearby Sunset School and Apollo High School. Tony voiced concerns that adding a fire station and the speculation of an associated community center would increase traffic and parking pressure and change the neighborhood’s character. He also said Mission Park functions as a stormwater-retention area and described recent standing water near his home, asking that retention be addressed before any site changes.
John Doyle, identified as a Cactus District resident, said the park is heavily used in winter for youth sports and said those organized activities would be "gone or changed seriously" if a fire station were sited there. Doyle also said the noise from fire trucks would be noticeable to neighbors.
Council did not take action on the topic during this meeting; the comments were part of the public-comment period. No staff presentation or formal agenda item on a fire-station siting appears in the meeting record for Oct. 28.
