Madison committee unanimously approves reviser’s ordinance to correct ordinance errors

City Attorney Haas told the committee: "This is 1 in our series of revisers ordinances, which we bring, to the council periodically to correct errors in the ordinances that are, clerical or things that cite the wrong statute." Haas said most changes are grammatical or technical but highlighted two substantive cleanups: removal of text in chapter 28 that had been moved to chapter 21 of the zoning code and repeal of an ordinance addressing "habitually intoxicated persons" that had a 2015 sunset and was no longer in effect.
The ordinance does not create new policy or regulatory obligations, Haas said, but tidies the municipal code so that chapters and citations are consistent and obsolete provisions are removed. The committee recorded a unanimous vote in favor of the reviser’s ordinance.
