Broussard declares three East Monroe Street buildings salvage, authorizes disposition by auction

On Oct. 28 the City of Broussard adopted Resolution 862-25 declaring three residential properties at 404, 410 and 414 East Monroe Street as salvage buildings only and authorized disposition procedures.
Staff explained these properties were acquired as part of the city's purchase of the historic school block; the city's insurance position and its preference not to operate residential rentals make auction and removal of the structures the city's recommended option. Staff said two of the buildings are currently occupied under agreements that the tenants will vacate by an agreed date. Under the plan the city would keep the land and dispose of the buildings (sale with removal), and staff said the city could set minimum acceptable terms through the auction process.
Council approved the resolution unanimously after staff described the auction approach and utility-meter procedures; there was no public comment recorded.
