Council approves $30,825 pump-control work to stop repeated bypass rentals

The Helena City Council approved an estimate of $30,825.27 from Luckett Pump and Well Service for work the water department said will remove the need for two rented bypass pumps at a critical pump station.
City staff said losing bypass pumps has forced repeated rental costs and occasional backups into a residential area. "This will get us off 2 bypass pumps," the presiding officer said during the water update; the proposal would install a panel to allow the city to stop renting temporary units.
Doctor Miller moved to accept the estimate for $30,825.27; the motion was seconded and approved on a roll-call vote. Staff said the city will formalize the expenditure with an ordinance as required by procurement procedures.
Council members emphasized that reducing recurring rental costs is a priority for the department and that the repair should prevent future backups and reduce operating expense.
