Council members reviewed competing proposals to replace a sanitation truck that was totaled about three weeks ago and discussed interim costs to maintain curbside pickup.
At the meeting the council heard from Ryan White, a vendor representative for River City Hydraulics, who said the company had a Freightliner rear-load chassis available and estimated a 45–55 day turnaround after order placement. "We're looking at about a 45 to 50 day turnaround once that order is placed to get you replaced," White said. He described a new 20-yard truck and a two-year-old 25-yard alternative; the used chassis reduces the cash price, White said, while the new truck typically includes a fuller warranty.
City staff and council members stressed the need to balance cost, capacity and warranty coverage. The city expects its insurance appraisal for the wrecked vehicle by the end of the week; until that amount is known, the council said it will not finalize the purchase. Council members also noted ongoing expense from renting contractor trucks since the wreck and discussed filing a loss-of-use claim with the insurer to recover rental fees.
White told the council the vendor—s standard body- and chassis-related warranty is two years, with optional coverage up to five years; he said local service can be handled from the company's Memphis office. The council requested full warranty documentation and financing terms before committing to an order.
The council approved a short-term payment to continue contractor service while the city awaits the appraisal. Council member Miss Davis moved to approve $37.50 to cover a one-week contractor/rental payment; the motion was seconded and approved on a roll-call vote.
Staff said additional quotes in the packet include higher-cost, feature-rich options from Scruggs Equipment and two 20-yard units from Arkansas Municipal Equipment; the Arkansas units may be on the dealer—s lot and available earlier. Council members asked staff to distribute the insurance appraisal and vendor warranty documents as soon as they are received so the council can act quickly if a special meeting is needed.
