Commission previews Bear East comprehensive plan recommendations, schedules open house

Creve Coeur staff and consultants briefed the Planning and Zoning Commission on next steps for the Bear East comprehensive plan update on Oct. 6 and confirmed an outreach plan that includes a public open house and additional Commission review.

Staff said they will present revised recommendations to the commission at its Oct. 20 meeting for final feedback before the public open house. The open house is scheduled for Oct. 29 and will be held in the city's multipurpose room, staff said. The format will begin with a short presentation and limited question-and-answer period and then move to stations where attendees can provide detailed input on topics such as transportation and connectivity.

City planner staff said the city has updated the project website and prepared a postcard that will be mailed to adjacent residents and trustees; staff also said they will email previous commenters and area jurisdictions, including representatives from neighboring communities, to publicize the open house. Staff asked commissioners to review the revised recommendations on Oct. 20 so staff can post final materials online shortly before the open house.

During the commission discussion, members emphasized the need to manage public questions during the presentation portion and to direct substantive feedback to the breakout stations or the project website so the workshop can remain focused. Staff said the PGAV consultant team and city public information staff will help run the event and produce a summary of public comments that will be returned to the commission for consideration in drafting the plan.

There was no formal vote on plan content at the Oct. 6 meeting; the commission agreed to a procedural schedule to finalize recommendations and public outreach.
