Town staff presented three insurance renewal options and said the renewal returned an 11.2% premium increase compared with the current plan. Staff highlighted two alternative plans that would reduce annual costs compared with the renewal plan and asked department heads to review the materials and discuss with staff so the council could decide whether to change plans ahead of a January 1 effective date.
Staff asked department heads to consult with employees who receive insurance benefits and report back before December if the council wants a plan change in time for Jan. 1. Council members asked that department heads provide input at the November meeting so any decision could be implemented and staff and employees would have new insurance cards by Jan. 1 if a change is adopted.
Council also discussed the feasibility of electronic vendor payments. Staff said the town can accept electronic payments but needs to coordinate with the vendor/processor Horizon and schedule technical support on site. Staff reported attempts to engage the vendor but said additional follow-up is required to complete the setup and testing. Council directed staff to continue pursuing the vendor integration and report progress at the November meeting.
