Finance committee adopts $40,000 revenue adjustment to courts budget

A representative for the judiciary and courts told the finance committee that Department of Children and Families (DCF) guidance and recent discussions with the state indicated a portion of Guardian ad Litem payments could be reimbursed under a 4E program. The representative recommended restoring $40,000 to line 443150 for those reimbursements.
The judiciary representative said the courts also face rising interpreter expenses; "the interpreter expenses have gone up over $100,000," the speaker said, and noted state grants to circuit courts are being adjusted at the state level.
Finance staff confirmed the court office had provided an estimate after the judiciary meeting and recommended amending the budget to include the $40,000 revenue and equivalent levy reduction. Supervisor Gierston moved to approve the courts budget with the $40,000 revenue increase and corresponding levy reduction; the motion passed by voice vote.
The committee recorded the change as an amendment to the proposed 2026 courts budget and forwarded it with committee approval.
