Council approves Mesabi Humane Society invoice contingent on county reimbursement

The council approved payment of an outstanding invoice from Mesabi Humane Society during the Oct. 28 meeting, but only after amending the motion to make the payment contingent on reimbursement from St. Louis County.
City Attorney Brian Lindsey told the council the county had agreed to reimburse the city for animal-control costs attributable to county tax-forfeited property and that the outstanding invoice was about $29,000. "The county is gonna pay that because it was a county tax forfeited property," Lindsey said (Brian Lindsey, city attorney).
Councilor Bach Schneider moved to pay the balance to Mesabi Humane Society; an amendment made the payment contingent on receiving the county reimbursement. Councilor Johnson said she would not support paying the bill until the funds were in hand; the council adopted the contingent motion.
Action: payment to Mesabi Humane Society approved contingent on receipt of funds from St. Louis County. Staff and council said they will provide the county check and the corresponding documentation prior to disbursing the payment.
