Residents press Morristown council on Miller Road lighting, downtown parking and e-bike safety

- Streetlight request: Linda Carrington (49 McCullough Ave.) asked the town to install a streetlight on Miller Road across from 21 Miller Road and provided photographs of the pole location. Council staff said the information was shared with the business administrator and that residents should expect follow-up.
- Farmer's Market and downtown parking: Peter Austin (owner, 89 Morris Street) described persistent parking shortages and a fallen stop sign near Town Lane that reduces visibility; he said a private lot behind Sanofi is not open to the public on Sundays and suggested temporary fixes or relocating the market. Council and staff discussed the parking authority's role and noted the farmer's market seasonal schedule (last Sunday before Thanksgiving at that location), and staff said signage and coordination with the parking authority could provide short-term relief.
- E-bikes and sidewalk safety: Bill Byrne described two near-miss incidents and called for enforcement; council and the mayor noted police currently may hold a confiscated e-bike for 24 hours, and the police director said the new traffic-safety unit and downtown walking officers would help enforcement. Officials emphasized limits on staffing and enforcement and said long-term changes might require ordinance research.
- Rally support: Debbie McCumber and other organizers representing the League of Women Voters and allied groups thanked the town, police and partner agencies for supporting a large 'No Kings' rally, saying attendees felt safe during the event.
Council responses: Council and administration said they would follow up on the Miller Road lighting request, work with the parking authority on short-term parking solutions, and direct police to prioritize enforcement options when feasible; staff noted two new officers had been sworn in and that partnership-funded walking patrols are planned.
The council closed public comment and moved to the regular agenda.
