Residents of Arnold's Corner told supervisors at the June 10 town hall that they oppose a proposed 121-townhome project and that they have gathered petition signatures to support their position.
Mark Feeney, who identified himself as a resident of Hoover Drive in Arnold's Corner, said the group opposes the development for several reasons: a perceived risk of increased crime associated with higher-density housing with affordable-financing options; drainage and erosion risks on highly permeable soils that could affect Lake Monroe and nearby yards, French drains and septic systems; anticipated traffic congestion where Route 3, Hoover Drive and Route 206 meet; and the expected additional load on local schools. Feeney said more than 100 petition signatures opposing the proposal had been collected.
Supervisors responded that they had not changed their positions since the applicant last appeared and that "there's no one here that's gonna vote for that" in the current board's view. Board members also raised safety concerns about a proposed entry/exit off a driveway near a Sheetz and said they had asked about the convenience-store owner's willingness to accept additional traffic through that site.
