During public comment, Damna Perez Rodriguez of 1717 West 60 Eighth Street said she bought an RV after checking dimensions and property limitations but then received a city notice saying RVs are not allowed for townhouse properties. She asked why a boat is permitted while an RV is not, and why single-family homes can keep RVs while townhouses cannot.
Zoning staff (identified in the record as Claudia) told the chair the ordinance allows for a request for relief through a variance depending on the RV's purchase date. An inspector had given Rodriguez an extension while staff review options; she was told the practical options were to sell the RV or pay for off-site parking. Rodriguez said selling was not an option because her children enjoy camping and using the RV.
The chair suggested staff and the resident follow up to determine whether a variance or other administrative relief is possible; the ordinance text and purchase date will be relevant to any request for relief.
