Plainview ' The Plainview ISD board on Thursday approved a $500 stipend for the staff sponsor of a newly formed Junior High "Hype Squad" spirit crew.
Staff described the Hype Squad as an informal student group organized by two teachers at the junior high that meets several times a week and attends home football and basketball games to promote school spirit. District leaders recommended adding a $500 annual stipend to the 2025'26 stipend schedule to compensate the sponsor teacher.
Board member Miss Rivera moved to approve the amendment; the motion was seconded and passed 6'00. Trustees who spoke in favor thanked the teacher sponsors for volunteer leadership and noted the stipend amount is modest.
The approved amendment adds the stipend to the district's published schedule for 2025'26. Staff said the stipend is intended to recognize time spent outside the school day to lead the spirit crew.
