Director Jen explained the city had added several new Rookie Athletics programs this year and enrollment rose, producing additional revenues and the need to increase the amount paid to the coach. "Coach Phil, as he's known, or Philip Tomberlin runs a rookie athletics program. And, this year we've added several different programs, and he's increased his numbers," Jen said, adding the payments are to allow him to pay for his programs.
Council President moved to place the $18,000 addition on the agenda as an emergency; Councilman Martin seconded. A roll-call vote recorded Martin and Curiosus as voting yes and the motion carried. The committee did not provide further budget detail or specify fund source during the discussion; staff was asked to place the item on the agenda for formal consideration.
