The Seven Hills City Council voted to add Resolution 15-20-25 to tonight’s agenda as an emergency to name the farmers market area between the gazebo and the fire station "Master Sergeant Joe Andrews Memorial Park." The motion to place the resolution on the agenda and waive the 24-hour notice requirement passed by roll call.
Mayor Villasciado told the council the administration worked with the family and recommended moving the memorial from a low-visibility pocket park on the Rockside Project to the more conspicuous area that currently hosts the farmers market. "We would like to name this area, Master Sergeant Joe Andrews Memorial Park," Villasciado said, citing the service and sacrifice of Master Sergeant Andrews and other KIA from Seven Hills and saying the location would provide "high visibility to all communities." He asked that the renaming occur in time for Veterans Day.
Council President moved to add the resolution to tonight’s agenda as an emergency and to waive the 24-hour clause; Councilman Martin seconded. A roll-call vote recorded Martin and Curiosus as voting yes. The council recorded the motion as carried and will consider the formal resolution as part of tonight’s agenda.
Villasciado said park design and implementation would follow the city’s normal park-planning timeline, noting plans would "play themselves out just like the park plan did over a year or two." The resolution text was identified as "Resolution 15-20-25." Details of any dedications, signage, budget, or construction timeline were not specified during the committee discussion and will be addressed in subsequent agenda items and staff reports.
