County retroactively approves replacement of jail generator control panel, authorizes mower purchase and snow-removal bid ad

Isanti County commissioners on Oct. 7 gave retroactive approval to replace the control panel on the main Caterpillar generator serving the jail and government center, approved purchase of a John Deere riding mower and authorized advertising for snow-removal contractors for the 2025–26 season.
Facilities manager Dan Lakeburg reported a failed monthly generator test and noted the unit did not start during one test. A Ziegler technician performed a temporary repair; staff recommended replacing the control panel. Lakeburg said the control panel replacement was approved in the field due to a three-month lead time and the unit's life-safety function; the county has a service contract with Ziegler as sole source for generator parts and repair. Commissioners voted to retroactively approve replacement and asked to receive monthly budget updates through November and December call meetings to monitor maintenance budgets.
Lakeburg also requested authorization to advertise for snow-removal bids for the coming season; the board approved advertising and asked for submission timelines. For equipment, facilities presented a plan to trade in the 2019 John Deere mower and purchase a new, like-for-like model (quoted $10,710); staff said it is budgeted for 2025. Commissioners approved the purchase.
Staff characterized the generator repair as a maintenance emergency, the trailer and mower purchases as budgeted capital replacements, and the snow-advertising request as a standard procurement step.
