Commissioners and panelists noted a high response rate—52 applicants—and said community panel members and the city’s traffic engineer (David Lemke) were important contributors to the scoring process. Commissioners discussed the need for the artist to coordinate with the landscape architect and traffic engineering to preserve sight lines and safety features and noted the city’s preference for hardscape rather than plantings on the roundabout.
The commission moved to approve the selection panel’s recommended artist and the motion carried by voice vote. Staff said preliminary design will be reviewed publicly and further engineering checks will determine final materials and placement.
