At the Oct. 28 meeting, a public commenter identified as Mr. Varney told the council the Sanitation District’s planning process is evaluating relocating the sanitation facility to a site safe from flooding and sea-level rise and that the project could be sizable.
“This will be about a 300,000,000 project, that the community needs to be aware of and engaged with,” Mr. Varney said during the public-comment period. He said the affected communities (Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach and the Oceano Community Services District) should work together on the project and pledged to provide additional information to the council.
Council members acknowledged receipt of Mr. Varney’s letter and told him that city managers, the Oceano Community Services District and the sanitation district had a meeting scheduled in December to discuss this and related topics. No formal action was taken by the council; the remark was recorded as public comment and referred to interagency follow-up.
