Council proclaims October 2025 as Disability Employment and Cybersecurity Awareness months

Councilwoman Jacinta Green presented and read the disability employment proclamation, highlighting the city’s commitment to hiring people with disabilities and citing national participation statistics included in the proclamation text: "nearly 1 in 4 adults in the United States lives with a disability" and a cited labor‑force participation rate for people with disabilities at 23 percent. Representatives from the city's human resources and Department of Community and Human Services described programs that assist people with differing abilities to obtain and retain employment, including supported employment teams and accommodation processes within city HR.
Councilman Abdel El Nuby (reading for the cybersecurity proclamation) said the city recognizes cybersecurity as a shared responsibility and announced public education efforts. A member of the IT Commission said Visit Alexandria and the city will host a cybersecurity awareness event on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to noon at The View Alexandria to give residents practical tips on online privacy, identity protection and account security.
Both proclamations were approved by council motions and subsequent voice votes.
