Commissioners ratify 15 infrastructure projects totaling $713,000 as county seeks funding after FEMA denial

The Allegany County Board of Commissioners voted to ratify 15 infrastructure projects totaling $713,000, bringing the county's active-project total to roughly $5.8 million.

County staff reported that several jobs have been completed and others remain active, including work near Fayette Summit Road in Harwood and at Beechwood. Staff said some completed work has not yet been invoiced, which will increase the total outstanding project amount.

Staff told the commissioners that FEMA denied the county's request for disaster funding. "We found out in the morning," one staff speaker said, and added that staff have discussed next steps with the governor's office and planned meetings with the county's legislative delegation to seek backfill funding. The speaker said, if state or federal assistance does not materialize, the county would likely need to access the bond market to finance outstanding work.

Commissioners approved the ratification by voice vote. No votes against or abstentions were recorded in the meeting transcript.
