Elko County School Board recognizes students and staff, approves donation and audit extension
Summary

Superintendent Anderson opened the recap by recognizing student and staff achievements and thanking sponsors that support the district’s Stars awards.
He identified Dylan Clark, a senior at Spring Creek High School and student body vice president, and highlighted Clark’s participation in golf and Future Business Leaders of America and his interest in international politics. The board also honored Sgt. Anna Bribieska for more than a decade of service as the district’s school resource officer; Anderson said Bribieska helped move the SRO program toward a more supportive, school-community focus and helped bring a staff wellness project and the Hope Squad peer-mentoring suicide-prevention program into district schools.
Anderson said a plaque made by Gordon Thomas, a teacher at Spring Creek High School, was presented to Bribieska. The board recognized Stars award winners: Maria Ruiz, counselor at Adobe Middle School, and Jesse Mittlestadt, a special education teacher at Sage Elementary.
Under action items, Anderson said the board approved a donation of a trailer to a citizen who volunteered to take it from district property. He also said the board granted a request to extend the district’s audit deadline because “due to things going on in the federal government, certain processes have been slowed down,” and the extension was sought to avoid additional costs to the district; Anderson said the audit will conclude once the federal complications are resolved.
