Superintendent Burke used the Oct. 28 meeting to summarize Strategic Plan Goal 3, titled "Leading and Growing," and to present a one‑page draft of his performance goals tied to the district strategic plan.
Burke emphasized teacher development and retention, citing the UNLV "grow‑your‑own" program (the district has at least eight employees engaged or accepted), coaching for administrators provided by Roy Casey, and targeted professional development such as training for multi‑language learners and curriculum coaching. He said the district aims to protect collaborative PD/PLC time and to promote teacher leadership, community partnerships and student voice.
Board members encouraged a tight set of measurable goals—three or fewer targets—and praised the superintendent’s public outreach and staff engagement. Burke said he will convert the goals into measurable metrics and return in a future meeting for board review and inclusion in his evaluation.
The conversation included comments from a newly appointed student board member who said she appreciates the district’s emphasis on engagement and discussion‑based instruction.
