Shrewsbury approves extension of St. Louis County dispatch contract

The Shrewsbury Board of Aldermen voted to approve an ordinance authorizing the mayor to execute a contract amendment with St. Louis County to extend the city's coordinated communications and computer-aided dispatch services.
Chief Vargas told the board the county's dispatch service has been providing the citywith continuity in emergency communications and that the county's pricing was comparable to the city's current provider, ECBC. "We're still a 100,000 or more or less than what we're paying for ECBC, with very good service," Chief Vargas said, adding the city does not anticipate needing a different PSAP.
After a motion for second reading and a subsequent motion for final passage, the clerk called the roll. The council recorded aye votes from the aldermen present and the mayor and declared the motion carried; the ordinance passed and was assigned ordinance number 4033.
The approved ordinance authorizes the mayor to sign the contract amendment so the city can continue to receive county dispatch services for the next year. The board did not amend the contract language on the floor and no substitute motions were offered.
The measure had been brought forward under the ordinances portion of the agenda and proceeded through second reading and final passage in the same meeting.
