Pat Grama, a Pacific resident, asked the commission to examine whether the city can pursue an overpass or other measures after a recent train mechanical issue left multiple grade crossings blocked.
"How much is a person's life worth?" Grama asked, recounting neighbors who could not be reached when crossings were down. Staff cautioned that installing a new crossing or an overpass is a lengthy process requiring coordination with the railroad and state highway authorities and would involve zoning review and likely take six months to a year to study and pursue.
Commissioners said they would put the issue on the radar for future agenda discussion and recommended staff reach out to relevant agencies for information.
