Council tables vote on naming purple the official Anna color; asks for joint session with Anna ISD

The council debated an agenda item to "consider, discuss, and act on naming purple as the official city color." Anna Independent School District Superintendent Toby Tucker spoke during public comment earlier in the meeting to convey the ISD's support for purple. At the Oct. 27 meeting several council members raised questions about which shade of purple would be adopted, trademark and legal risks, the costs of a citywide rollout and the need for a coordinated joint meeting with Anna ISD and an inventory of city assets that would require repainting or rebranding.

Councilmember remarks stressed process. One council member said a formal inventory of affected assets showed a prior estimate in excess of $1 million to fully rebrand signage and other city materials, and argued the city should not make an immediate unilateral decision. Other council members noted the ISD already defines "coyote purple" in its style guide and urged a joint workshop so the two entities could align rollout, messaging and costs.

After extended discussion, the council voted on a motion to take no action on naming purple and to pursue a joint session and more staff research; Miss Laney called the roll and the motion carried. The vote effectively tables the item and requests additional coordination and a formal plan in advance of any final adoption.
