Tollway recommends short-term generator rental and approves SUV purchases for fleet replacement

Dave Donovan, presenting for Facilities & Fleet on Oct. 22, recommended awarding an invitation-for-bid contract to Smart Innovations LLC to provide emergency generator rental services for the Tollway's disaster recovery center until a permanent generator is available at the site being relocated. Donovan said the vendor will supply the generator, fuel, cables and required switchgear and provide maintenance and 24/7 emergency service with one-hour response capability. Only one bid was received; staff said there were limited firms that provide this specialized service. The recommended amount was not to exceed $177,192 for the initial one-year term and a potential renewal totaling up to $366,249.48.
Donovan also recommended awarding a one-time purchase contract to Bob Brightys Inc for three Ford Expeditions and three Ford Explorers to replace vehicles exceeding the Tollway's replacement criteria; he said two bidders submitted bids and the recommended award amount was $366,957. Committee motions placed both items on the October board agenda, and subsequent board action approved them.
Staff told the committee that the generator rental is a temporary measure while the Tollway completes relocation and the permanent backup system is brought online, and that vehicle replacements were due to mileage and condition criteria.
