Summary
The University Place School District Board of Directors voted unanimously to place two replacement levies and a bond measure on a Feb. 10, 2026, special election ballot.
The University Place School District Board of Directors voted unanimously to place three funding measures on a special election ballot for Feb. 10, 2026: a replacement educational programs and operations levy, a bond proposition to replace and renovate deteriorating buildings, and a replacement safety, technology and capital improvements levy.
The board adopted Resolution 858100825 to submit a replacement educational programs and operations levy to district electors. The board also adopted Resolution 859100825 to submit a bond measure described by board staff as “no more than $295,000,000” to fund construction of two new primary schools to replace Chambers and Sunset Primary and to renovate Curtis High School. Finally, the board adopted Resolution 860100825 to submit a replacement safety, technology and capital improvements levy. Board members passed each resolution by voice vote; the chair recorded no opposition to any of the three measures.
Public comment at the meeting included several residents who urged support for the levy and bond proposals. Paul Pineda said the district—s three-proposal approach "makes so much more financial sense" because shorter funding terms avoid paying interest on items that wear out sooner. A written comment from resident Gretchen Casarotti, read aloud by staff, said: "As a parent with 2 kids in the district, I completely support the district's intentions to put the funding measures forward for a public vote" and praised district leadership for stewardship of tax dollars. Another in-person commenter, Robin, urged approval of the levy package as a reflection of community values and the district's academic and athletic opportunities.
Board discussion before the bond vote included a staff clarification of the bond's scope and amount. A board member described the bond as "for no more than $295,000,000 for the purpose of paying costs for constructing 2 new primary schools to replace Chambers and Sunset Primary and renovating Curtis High Senior High School." The board voiced support for the measures and thanked the district facilities committee for work that informed the resolutions.
The board first approved the consent agenda earlier in the meeting by voice vote. The three funding measures were presented as separate resolutions and were each adopted in turn. The district will place the three propositions on the Feb. 10, 2026 special election ballot for voter consideration.
The board did not record individual roll-call vote tallies in the public portion of the meeting; the clerk reported voice votes with no objections. If specific roll-call tallies are required, the district clerk will need to provide them from the meeting minutes or the official record.
